Commuter Bike
As you or your child is packing for college and thinking about a new bike, here are some tips from G Force Products and also bits from our friends at Planet Green:
- Determine Type of Bike Needed
- What distances will you be going? Short distances or long?
- Will the bicycle be used for other purposes (Recreation/Sport/Cycling)
- Get a light weight durable frame
- If you will be also using for cycling, then consider Carbon Fiber (if you have the money to burn)
- Will you need to have storage?
- If so, then get one with fenders
- What additional accessories will you need?
- Fenders - For protection when wet and also to protect bikes from racks
- Racks or panniers - Used for storage
- Mirror - For Safety and to monitor traffic behind you
- Tires - modify your bike with the right tires for conditions you will by cycling in
Common Types of Bikes for College
- Commuter Bikes - these bicycles are a transformation of mountain bikes into bikes that can be used for commuting without the heavy weight of the mountain bike. Made for comfort for long hauls
- Road Bicycles - Fast speed bikes for getting places quickly
- Fixed Speed Bikes - These are useful for cycling on flat open areas with little hills. They are cost effective alternatives to Commuter bicycles and Road Bicycles
And of course the last item that you will need is a water bottle. We would prefer that you purchase a G Force Stainless Steel Water Bottle, but we will leave that decision up to you.
Remember that buying a bike and using it not only gets you from A to B, but it is also a Green and ECO Friendly way to travel. If you also have tips, please leave them in the comments. We are looking forward to hearing your ideas for back to school.
