Once again we see another celebrity on The Jay Leno Show Green Car Challenge driving the Green Built Ford Focus.   It was the outspoken conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh. His interview with Jay was very colorful and looking at him, we were amazed to see such weight loss. According to him, he lost almost 85 pounds and was raring to go on the racetrack even declining to wear the protective helmet.

Unfortunately he did not beat the track record, but decided to hit former Vice President Al Gore, not only once, but backing up and hitting him again with the car.  I don’t think he was trying to beat the track record or put down being Green, but make a statement about running over Al Gore.  Of course he did the same with environmentalist Ed Begley.  At the end of the race he was very exstatice about driving the environmentally friendly Ford Focus.

Are you wondering if you are working for a Green company?  You get all the literature about how to save energy, recycle paper, reduce waste, but how did your company rank?  For the first time Newsweek published thier Exclusive Environmental Ranking of America’s 500 Largest Corporations.  We decided to publish the top 20.  You can see the full list at Newsweek.  Now if you don’t see your company, it does not mean it is not green, but did not meet the criteria.

Rank

1.

Hewlett-Packard “Strong programs to reduce GHG emissions…. Technology

2.

Dell “Ranks 4th among the top U.S…. Technology

3.

Johnson & Johnson “Its commitment to climate change is… Pharmaceuticals

One additional item to point out is that this is only for the largest corporation and not small and medium size businesses.  At the end of the day you still have to do your part in supporting environmental issues and green initiatives within your company.  When was the last time you used less power at your office, desk, cubicle, or workspace.  If every worker made an effort at least one time per week, we could make an impact on the world.

It is finally great to see some Green in Prime Time television these days.  On Friday September 18th, “The Jay Leno Show” premiered its “Green Car Challenge” featuring a Green Ford Vehicle.   According to the press release:

  • Ford and the new “The Jay Leno Show” on NBC are teaming up to showcase battery electric vehicle (BEV) technology as part of the show’s “Green Car Challenge,” premiering Sept. 14
  • A specially built battery electric Ford Focus will be driven through the show’s first season by celebrity guests who are competing in the “Green Car Challenge” for best track times

As Drew Barrymore zipped through the turns and twists of a custom built track by Jay Leno, the Ford Focus was on mark.  In the coming weeks, there will be more celebrities competing against each other to see who will get the best times around the track.

“Having our Focus battery electric vehicle on the show is a great way to demonstrate how fun to drive these cars really can be,” said Lisa Drake, chief engineer, Ford Hybrid and Battery Electric Vehicle Programs. “Beyond the immediate excitement of driving, it demonstrates that Ford is investing in this technology and that we’re committed to electric vehicles.”

It if really great that they are taking the revolution of green automobiling to television.  Now if all car chases were in fuel efficient cars, then we would have a real effort in Prime Time.  This is really a great start.

Another option is to make every production in Hollywood Eco Friendly.  One way to do this would be to have Eco Frieindly products used by crews.  One way would be to eliminate all plastic water bottles and replace them with G Force Stainless Steel Water Bottles.

If you are a television or film production manager and are looking to make your production eco friendly, contact us or just buy online.  Production discounts are available.

Commuter Bike

Commuter Bike

As you or your child is packing for college and thinking about a new bike, here are some tips from G Force Products and also bits from our friends at Planet Green:

  • Determine Type of Bike Needed
    • What distances will you be going? Short distances or long?
    • Will the bicycle be used for other purposes (Recreation/Sport/Cycling)
  • Get a light weight durable frame
    • If you will be also using for cycling, then consider Carbon Fiber (if you have the money to burn)
  • Will you need to have storage?
    • If so, then get one with fenders
  • What additional accessories will you need?
    • Fenders - For protection when wet and also to protect bikes from racks
    • Racks or panniers - Used for storage
    • Mirror - For Safety and to monitor traffic behind you
    • Tires - modify your bike with the right tires for conditions you will by cycling in

Common Types of Bikes for College

  • Commuter Bikes - these bicycles are a transformation of mountain bikes into bikes that can be used for commuting without the heavy weight of the mountain bike.  Made for comfort for long hauls
  • Road Bicycles - Fast speed bikes for getting places quickly
  • Fixed Speed Bikes - These are useful for cycling on flat open areas with little hills.  They are cost effective alternatives to Commuter bicycles and Road Bicycles

And of course the last item that you will need is a water bottle.  We would prefer that you purchase a G Force Stainless Steel Water Bottle, but we will leave that decision up to you.

Remember that buying a bike and using it not only gets you from A to B, but it is also a Green and ECO Friendly way to travel.   If you also have tips, please leave them in the comments.  We are looking forward to hearing your ideas for back to school.
